Editor's Review of Book of Time 3D
Now, here's a screen saver I'd actually pay for. The Book of Time 3D displays a photorealistic leather-bound book with parchment pages floating on your desktop. An old-fashioned clock face is printed on each page. As the pages flip, with realistic page-flipping sounds, the clock hands advance to the correct time. It's simple and satisfying.
The program is easy to download and install (just click the executable), and is fairly customizable. You control how often the pages turn, how loud the flipping is, and whether your desktop goes black or remains visible when the book appears.
There are no nag screens; in this demo version, the clock stops after 5 minutes. Registering the screen saver for $15 keeps the clock running, replaces the "unregistered" label on the pages with the time and date, and gives you tech support via e-mail and a free upgrade to current versions.
