If you're looking for maximum system protection, particularly against rootkits that can hide themselves from many pieces of anti-virus software, give ThreatFire AntiVirus a try. It's designed to work along with your existing anti-virus software to protect you against hidden rootkits as well as "zero day" exploits, which are threats that anti-virus software doesn't yet know about.

ThreatFire AntiVirus program protects against unknown threats by using behavioral analysis rather than anti-virus signatures to scan for threats. It's a lightweight scanner, so that it won't bog down your system by using too many system resources or RAM. It's customizable, so that you can set the level of protection, ranging on a scale of one to five.

Note: This link takes you to the vendor's site, where you can download the most recent version of this security software. There is a Pro version of the program available, in addition to this free one. The Pro version includes PC Tools AntiVirus.

Duration of ownership: 3 Months

Strengths: Just set and forget. Very effective. Uses minimum system ressources.

Weaknesses: None

Overall Evaluation: A very nice piece of software and definitely one of the most effective that I have ever used in the war on Malware. Even the smallest adware has trouble getting through. A fantastic 'must-have' product.

Duration of ownership: 3 Months

Strengths: Uses Minimal Resources. Simple Interface. Runs Silently In The Background. Updates Itself. Set It And Forget It.

Weaknesses: None Yet.

Overall Evaluation: Great addition to your security package. Doesn't bog down your system. Very simple interface. I maintain several systems for freinds & family. I'ts surprising how many of them had problems with mailware\spyware sneeking into their computers. By installing this on all machines i'm maintaining, it's eliminated having to spend my time ridding their computers of unwanted nasties. I run Threatfire along with AVG, AVG AntiSpyware, Windows Defender, Super AntiSpyware & various Firewall aplications( 1 per machine of course), all free of course. Some may think that's a little overkill & it may be, but they all pretty much maintain themselves. Since adding Threatfire however, if i wanted to drop any of these programs, i would more than likely get rid of the SuperAntiSpyware & the AVG AntiSpyware. As I said though, they all pretty much maintain themselves & I have not run into any conflicts between any & all of these programs running simultaneously. If you're interested in adequate protection with minimul resources being used, my reccomendation would be the free versions of: AVG antivirus, Threatfire, Windows Defender & a good firewall. Duration of ownership: 5 Months

Strengths: Excellent advanced behavior based protection, complements my other apps (AVG, Zone free firewall) nicely with no conflicts, minimal system impact, very quite--only bothers me when there's something that requires attention

Weaknesses:

Overall Evaluation: Cyberhawk is so easy to use and so minimally intrusive that I almost forget that I'm using it. It gives me great added protection in addition to my other security programs, but it doesn't conflict with them or slow down my system. I definitely give it a high rating and two thumbs up!
