Editorial Review of SplashID

This program is meant for poor suckers like me who can't remember passwords (or most anything else) to save our lives. In addition to those oh-so-forgettable logins, SplashID has templates for storing everything from credit card numbers to clothing sizes.

Each type of template labels fields appropriately, such as "Doctor, Pharmacy and RX#" for a Prescriptions and the expected username, password and URL for Web logins. For logins, you can click a URL to bring up the page in your default browser, but SplashID won't auto-fill your login data like the browser's built-in password managers.

SplashID uses 256-bit Blowfish encryption for all its saved data, and you can set a start-up password (though you'd have to remember that one yourself). You can also export or import your saved records to and from a backup file.

SplashData recently created a PC stand-alone version of their program to go with existing versions that work with a variety of PDAs, like Treos and Blackberries. A free evaluation version is good for storing 25 records, while the full version costs $20. The PDA and smartphone versions cost $30.
