This utility lets you change the MAC address--the unique ID--of a wireless adapter. Use it to perform vulnerability
testing, or to keep your identity private.
Ed. Note: This is a free version that will not timeout, according to the developer. Post-installation you will be asked to "Buy" or "Proceed." Use "proceed" for the free version which will not timeout, according to the developer.
Strengths: IT WORKS! Easy to use! Made in USA! Got support email and phone# with quick response!
Weaknesses: Although I wish the free version can let me change more MAC Addresses, I am happy that I can mask my MAC Address with the pre-set address. I might invest $20 to buy the feature rich version. I think my privacy worth more than that :)
Overall Evaluation: It Works! The free version (No Registration version) allows me to change 1 MAC Address so when I am at Airports and Hotels I have always use SMAC to mask the real MAC Address of my network card to protect my wireless privacy. The most important thing: IT WORKS!!

Strengths: Does what it says
Weaknesses: It is not free, and there are better alternatives available that are free.
Overall Evaluation: This product should not be in the "free" section, as the trial version only let me change the MAC address to one predetermined MAC address. It does not seem to change the MAC address, instead only change something in the registry, according to my research. If that is true, this is not rocket science and this should not cost 20 dollars. I agree with the previous reviewer that there are better alternatives available that are free and you should try those and save your money.
Overall Evaluation: I have started using SMAC since version 1.2, but I like the current version, 2.0, better. SMAC 2.0 is easy to use and I have been using SMAC at hot spots, too. I use SMAC with TOR regularly to add additional web surfing privacy. I also had to spoof my MAC address once because I had a software license that was tied to a MAC address of a old network adapter that had gone bad. I was thankful that I could get a $9.99 new network card instead of a $300 software license. I am happy with SMAC.

Strengths: Wireless Privacy Protection

Overall Evaluation: SMAC Offers excellent wireless privacy protection. I have been using SMAC to spoof my MAC Address on my notebook to protect my privacy when I am on the wireless (wi-fi) hot spots such as Airports, Hotels, and Starbucks. I have been using SMAC since version 1.1 (date back to 2003). It has been very reliable, and version 2.0 is even easier to use. I highly recommend SMAC software.

Strengths: No specific strength
Weaknesses: Its not FREE.
Overall Evaluation: What the software does is just change a registry key and the company is charging $19.99 for it. I have got a FREE tool called Technitium MAC Address Changer v4.5 (http://tmac.techitium.com) that does the same thing for free. So buying it is waste of money, serously.
It's an unsafe world out there for Windows-based computers. Microsoft wants to address the problem with its new megapatch, Service Pack 2 for Windows XP.
