Editorial Review of Pidgin (formerly GAIM)

Pidgin is a universal messenger, like Trillian, and it connects to even more instant messenger systems, including AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, Google Talk, Groupwise…the list goes on even longer, and includes services you've likely never heard of, such as QQ and Gadu-Gadu. As with Trillian, you can communicate on as many services simultaneously as you want. Pidgin tries to take advantage of the capabilities of each different IM platform, so that you'll be able to send and receive files and use other features of the various systems.

Pidgin has plenty of plugins you can download to extend the software even further, such as being able to store notes about a specific buddy, customizing colors in the conversation windows, and others.
