Editorial Review of Vision Backup Home

Vision Backup Home has all the features a conscientious home user will need, and then some. With its competitors costing at least $20 more, its low price makes it attractive. And other versions are available that support server-based backups.

The easy-to use interface lets you easily schedule backups, set filters for types of files to back up, and quick ways to restore files. I did find it annoying, though, that the software often asks "Are you sure you want to cancel wizard?" when I hit Cancel. Two clicks are not necessary to dismiss a window.

Vision Backup Home backups are encrypted at up to 448 bits and backups can be saved to CD or DVD media, .zip files, USB flash drives, hard drives, and tape drives. As I expected, Vision Backup Home also creates incremental and differential backups by date or archive bit. My testing didn't include testing restored files for their integrity, so we suggest you do your own "spot testing" before committing to this software.

Perhaps one of the coolest features in Vision Backup Home is the many ways you can send reports of completed backups and other actions: it can send an e-mail, HTML log file, and, of course, create text and XML files.
