Editorial Review of Vista Manager 64-bit

If you want to tweak Windows Vista six ways to Sunday, you should give Vista Manager a try. This remarkable program packs numerous utilities--each one of which lets you change multiple Vista settings--into a single interface.

Listing all the tweaks and customizations you can do with this program would practically fill a book, so I won't try to detail them all. But if you'd like to turn Aero on or off, disable specific Aero features, or even force Aero to work on an older PC, you can from here. Vista Manager also lets you customize just about every part of the Desktop, Start menu, and Taskbar, as well as your icons.

Then there's a whole set of optimization tweaks for speeding up your system, plus system repair tools, ways to tweak Internet Explorer, security enhancements, network customization tools...Suffice it to say, the list is long indeed. There's even a Registry defragmenter and cleaner.

Note: This software comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. This is the 64-bit version, which is for 64-bit PCs running a 64-bit OS. If your PC is running a different supported OS, please download the 32-bit version instead.

Duration of ownership: 1 Days

Strengths: More options than most products have Real, working, proven steps to fix issues Does many things very well

Weaknesses: Whoever wrote this program does not know english as a first language... I had to re-read several tooltips a few times before I understood the message, but most are OK. Program has 15-day time limit. Stupid shareware.

Overall Evaluation: It's definitely the best Vista tweaking system I've found yet, this one I've been playing with for a few hours now and it's already fixed some small nagging issues I've had, like notepad not showing up in file-new, getting rid of items from my context menu, adding popular DIY items to my context menu, changing folder icons, making .mp3 files open a download window... If you know what you're doing pretty well, this is the best program I've found to do things in a click or two. Now if it didn't have the 15-day limit it would really be great.

Duration of ownership: 2 Days

Strengths: Has a handfull of helpful tools of it's own, while also including many windows settings and tools in a convenient list without having to click all over Vista to find them all.

Weaknesses: While the program does well at finding many things to tweak, it does not offer many warnings of the ill effects of many of it's tweaks. Because of this, the program is best suited for advanced users... yet advanced users can perform most of these tasks without the need of this program. It's the chicken and the egg thing all over again.

Overall Evaluation: This program does all it claims to do, and does it fairly well. If you have ever wondered what would happen if Tweak UI and CCleaner had a baby, and said baby had his bottles full of RedBull, this program is it.

Strengths: Wouldnt know, doesn't support 64bit system.

Weaknesses: No 64bit support

Overall Evaluation: It's nice to spend the extra money for a 64bit system and software and be hung out to dry by Microsoft and developers, I can't wait for 128bit system! Can I pre-order?

Strengths: they seem to be working on it, getting the bugs out.

Weaknesses: They expect you to buy a Beta product: see evaluation

Overall Evaluation: Twice a month a newer version is released, fixing numerous bugs in this "work-in-progress" product. It really bothers me when companies like this one expect their customers to finance their product development and go through the growing pains of getting the product to a stage where it's relatively bug-free. This is one of the big complaints about Microsoft, but at least they have the excuse that it's a complex operating system which is expected to "play nice" with thousands of other companies' products. And at least they support it for ten years or so. This company, Yamicsoft, does at least promise support for two years, but they really ought to have worked out more kinks before charging $40 for a product that's still being developed.
