Editorial Review of Google Earth Strange Sights

This Google Earth KMZ file download was created to accompany the story, In Pictures: The Strangest Sights in Google Earth.

To view this file you must have any version of Google Earth installed on your computer. When prompted to "save" or "open" file, select open.

If Google Earth is installed on your computer it will create shortcuts or Placemarks to dozens of interesting Google Earth destinations mentioned in the story. Look for PCW's links in the Places menu on the left-side panel of Google Earth. There is no prerequisite to read the story. If you like, skip reading the story and just download the collection of Google Earth Placemarks and have fun.

Duration of ownership: 1 Days

Strengths: Although it isn't stated here on the download page, this KMZ file works equally well under Linux! No special place to put it, I put my copy in my home directory. Then just go to 'File->Open' on the toolbar and enjoy! It shows up in temporary places as PCW Strangest Sites in Google.

Weaknesses: None yet. Except for PCWorld's much publicized anti-Linux policy. Just don't phone or email for help, you should be alright.

Overall Evaluation: Could not access the program even with new Google downloads.

Strengths: Interesting and fun Google Earth placemarks.

Weaknesses: Buffalo placemarks in Africa are are actually Wildebeest. Buffalo are not in Africa--mainly in the U.S. and Canada.

Overall Evaluation: Fun and interesting. Should be sure placemarks are correct, though.

Strengths:

Weaknesses: Downloading as instructed produces a Zip file which must be directed for extraction to a specific location to work, but no location is given in instructions. Have attempted to extract to several places within Google Earth directory and subdirectories, and the product so far is unusable. Please advise where to place these files.

Overall Evaluation: Would be great if the install instructions were complete.
