You can narrow your searches for music files by specifying minimum ping (response) time, bit rate, and frequency. Included are a built-in FTP client, an internal MP3 player, and a hot-list for your favorite MP3 sites. The New Artist feature allows you to browse for new bands by genre. You also can exclude terms in your song searches, and you can rename MP3 and WMA files from within Napster.
This latest version includes fingerprinting technology that helps Napster block access to music files that cannot be legally copied. This feature was added to bring the program in compliance with the District Court order of March 5, 2001.
