Editorial Review of Auslogics BoostSpeed

Note: This review addresses v4.5.15 of the software. The price has changed since this review was written.

This system optimization tool suite takes an everything-plus-the-kitchen-approach to cleaning, optimizing, and potentially speeding up your PC. Auslogics BoostSpeed includes modules and wizards for just about any kind of tweak or optimization you can imagine, organized into seven major categories: including Computer Clean Up, Optimization, Privacy and Security, System Control, System Information, and Windows Tools. A category called "Introduction" includes tools for cleaning your hard disk, defragmenting it, and performing a one-button cleanup.

Each section of Auslogics BoostSpeed includes many different modules. For example, Privacy and Security includes a tracks eraser for removing traces of your computer use and Internet browsing, a file shredder, and more. Most modules and wizards are simple to use. The Internet Optimizer, for example, is wizard-based, and makes changes without you requiring any special knowledge. However, if you'd like, many let you delve into details--the Internet Optimizer, for example, will show you changes it plans to make to things such as Maximum MTU values, and allow you to keep them unchanged on a one-by-one or all-at-once basis.

Depending on the state of your system and its components, you may or may not see a significant performance boost from this program. Relatively fast, clean PCs may not show obvious improvements, while PCs cluttered with junk and with older processors will likely see more improvements.

Is the program worth the $30? If you want to wring every last bit of performance and customization out of your PC, and aren't technically astute enough to do it yourself, Auslogics BoostSpeed may well be worth it. But if you're willing to spend more time tweaking your system--or you just don't need so many optimizations--it's a lot of money to pay.
