Duration of ownership: 18 Months
Strengths: Reliable. Set it and forget it. Good recovery console. Auto manages space, removing old recovery points
Weaknesses: Nothing springs to mind
Overall Evaluation: I've been using this since I was offered the 1.0 version for $10 as a registered symantec user more than a year ago. The ability to have constant (daily document backups) combined with less frequent drive image backups is very useful. Once you have defined the necessary backups you require, If you have dedicated internal and or external backup drives it takes care of things on its own. As with all things Norton, it can be a resource hog.. but then again you expect a backup to be I/O intensive, at least this is configurable. Backup performance is surprisingly fast for the amount of data being moved. By default SnR swiches off the XP 'last accessed' parameter that would make otherwise every file backed up need to updated too (good idea and effective).
