If every time you boot your PC you're greeted with a folder containing System32, you probably have a corrupt string value in one of your Registry entries. You could follow Microsoft's long-winded advice and fiddle with the Registry if you want to, but a quicker solution is Kelly's System32 Folder Open Upon Boot. This Visual Basic script that automatically tweaks your Registry as necessary.

Strengths: Easy to find, download quick and smooth, ran utility, worked for me as described. no more sign of system32 folder on startup and pc seems to be running normally.

Weaknesses: none

Overall Evaluation: Worked great for me. After running the utility, a pop-up told me it had been successful. Restarted and no sign of the annoying folder opening.

Strengths: Kelly has a very good idea to solve a common problem...and it's free and available.

Weaknesses: This download couldn't solve my problem. My guess is that it looks for a single problem in the registry, but not for multiple which leads to not being able to help every consumer.

Strengths: Works great...eliminated the system32 popping up everytime I booted my PC.

Weaknesses: None

Overall Evaluation: Thanks for a simple solution to an annoyance...the "fix" on Microsoft didn't work, then I read about this in the Dec 07 issue of PC World...tried it, and it worked!!
