Strengths: Handy way to look into files to see what's there. I have a lot of old Write files, I can right click on a file, select "Universal Viewer" from the menu and walla! there it is. Of course I had to add the plug-in that the other reviewers complain they can't find...
Weaknesses: The help file doesn't do the work for you. Maybe others, too soon to tell yet.
Overall Evaluation: Wish I had found this long ago. To add the plug-in for xls, doc and wri files, open the help file, look around, you'll find the instructions. It wasn't really all that hard. Don't make it too complicated!

Strengths: Can be used to view basic files. Plug-ins can principally extend viewer capabilities.
Weaknesses: The author lists numerous plug-ins, but fails to provide any information on how to install them, no matter how deeply one digs on his website. The readme files, that I tried, refrained from provide useful info on anything.
Overall Evaluation: Given that my routines develop around utilities and feeling uneasy about the support that the author provides for his software, I uninstalled the utility.

Strengths: reads pdf files ok
Weaknesses: no access to word or excel documents
Overall Evaluation: the reference to the word and excle plug in fails to give specific details about what its file name is, where to find it, and how to download it. pcworld should list this information in the online description of the ATViewer!! Please update your description paragraph to include this important information!!!

Strengths: Views text, html and JPG files very quickly and effectively.
Weaknesses: Not sure whether the download includes the Office plugin-- see comments below
Overall Evaluation: With XLS spreadsheet and Word documents there is an intermediate "File Download" pop-op warning (from Windows?) and some delay, so it opens the files more slowly than simply using the Microsoft file viewer for XLS, but in the case of Word documents it is still faster than waiting for the Word program to load. What is not clear is whether there is a separate downloadable plugin for viewing Office documents that might skip the intermediate step. If there is, PC World does not provide a link to such plugin. Presumably, it is included in the download and is simply not as effective as Microsof's own file viewer. It would help if PC World would clarify whether the plugin requires a separate download, and tell us where to find it.
