Editorial Review of Virtual CloneDrive

Note: This review addresses v5.2.0.2 of the software.

Virtual CloneDrive allows you to access the contents of a CD or DVD file, such as a downloaded .iso file used to install a Linux operating system, as if you had inserted the disc into a drive on your PC. The virtual drive shows up in Windows Explorer much like any regular drive, with a drive letter and cutesy sheep icon.

The quick and easy installation prompts you to associate Virtual CloneDrive with .ccd, .dvd, .img, .iso, .udf and .bin files. Thereafter, you can double-click a file with those extensions, and its contents will show up under the Virtual CloneDrive. When you're done, you can right-click the virtual drive and unmount (unload) the file with an option under a new Virtual CloneDrive menu listing.

The simple program interface allows for creating up to eight virtual drives (default is one), and for choosing from a variety of languages.
