Editorial Review of Download Accelerator Manager Free Edition
Download Accelerator Manager (DAM for short) is one of many
programs that promises to help you download better and faster from
the Internet. But there are far better products available,
including the excellent free Download Accelerator
Plus. If you need to make your downloads more efficient, DAP is
a better bet.
DAM does allow you to schedule download, batch downloads, pause
and resume, and so on. You can change the order of downloads, and
easily re-schedule them as well. It also very nicely puts your
downloads into categories, and makes it easy to manage them once
you've got them downloaded.
The problem I had, though, was that it didn't integrate with my
browsers. When I downloaded files from popular download
sites--including PC World's download library--Download
Accelerator Manager simply didn't recognize them. Nor would it
allow them to be managed. I couldn't get it to work with either
Internet Explorer or Firefox. It worked fine when I entered actual
URLs for downloads, but that's not exactly a timesaver. You'll save
more time if you bypass this program and go for Download Accelerator
Plus instead.

Description of Download Accelerator Manager Free Edition
Accelerate downloads by up to 20 times via using advanced download logic. Schedule, recover, resume, and organize downloads. DAM has a FLV grabber and accelerator for many video sites, like YouTube, Google Video, MySpaceTV, DailyMotion, Bebo, MetaCafe, LiveVideo, Tudou, and YouKu sites.
DAM features advanced dynamic-download-segmentation, no-file-part-assembly technology to achieve best download speed. DAM will recover downloads due to unexpected events or errors, such as lost connections, power outages, or network problems. It can connect to the Internet, download files, then disconnect or shutdown computer when done. This downloader can get files from protected sites and support Web cookies, proxy, HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP protocols, and redirects. Other features include connection, sites, sounds, and free space managements. DAM supports Vista and all popular browsers, like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, and Avant. You may add a scanner, like AdAware, AVG Anti-Virus, Avast, Spybot, McAfee VirusScan, SpywareBlaster, or CCleaner, to ensure download security.
