Editor's Review of WiFi Hopper

Here's a great tool for sniffing out any nearby networks, and getting a great deal of information about them, to make it easier to know whether you should connect. It scans for any WiFi networks it can find, and for each reports the SSID (network name), MAC address of the wireless router, signal strength, whether the network is encrypted, and if so what type of encryption it uses, your connection status, the frequency on which the network operates, and more.

It also reports whether the network is in infrastructure mode (where you're connected to a wireless router), or ad hoc mode, which is a PC-to-PC connection. Ad hoc connections are potentially dangerous, so you know you should stay away unless know the person to whom you'll connect.

In addition to all that, there's another nice extra as well --- you can view a graph of the signal strength, in real time, of any nearby network. Also, to connect to any network WiFi Hopper finds, simply double-click it.
