Editorial Review of RadWinMan

RadWinMan brings to Windows many features and tricks common to Linux window managers, which define how you can control program, document and other windows. For example, with it you can minimize any window to the system tray, make it partially transparent or cause it to 'roll up' such that only the title bar remains visible.

There's no installer for the tiny download. Just unzip it into a directory of your choice and double-click the RadWinMan.exe contained within, and it'll sit quietly in your system tray.

Then when you next open a new window, you'll see a new thumbtack button that can make any window sticky, or always on top. Right-clicking the minimize button sends the window to the system tray, and right-clicking the maximize button offers a resize menu that can make any window a specific size, such as 640x480, or make it grow to maximum vertical size.

For details on its other nifty features, open the RadWinMan.txt file in the zip folder, but keep in mind that to get the right-click window menu (which contains new options such as making a window transparent), you'll need to right-click the new thumbtack button. Right-clicking the program title with RadWinMan running will send a window to the back, or underneath other windows.

Also, there's no program option for having RadWinMan automatically start with Windows, so if you decide you always want to use it create a program shortcut and add it to your Startup folder.

RadWinMan only used a scant 3MB in my tests, and closing it immediately returned all windows to normal. So if you like to customize your desktop, RadWinMan is a fine free tool.
