The image editor with its small collection of FX and basic drawing functions is handy. And so are the audio and video editors with their adjustable start/end point editing. Few users will need more. But I was expecting more from the MIDI editor (the ability to add, delete or change notes). All you can do is enable or disable instruments and change the volume. RMS's librarians make it easy to locate, track, and add media though no more so than a free download such as Picasa.
Probably the handiest feature of RMS is its online locker which allows you to upload ringtones and media from your PC, then download them directly to your phone. This of course requires a phone capable of the download, but it makes RMS cheaper in many cases that buying the data connection cable and kit that cell phone makers love to gouge you for. There's also a lot of free media available online when you register the program. If you do have the data cable, RMS supports direct communications with literally hundreds of phones.
Personally, I have a smart phone that I can drag media directly to or use WMP to manage. I also have much better editors for every media type that RMS provide, so Ringtone Media Studio isn't of much use to me. That said, for light, off-the-cuff editing and users with older phones RMS could be very handy. Fortunately, you can download it and try it before you buy it to see if it works with yours.
