If you're itching to mess with system icons, but have no artistic skill, Microangelo On Display is for you. With a couple of clicks, you can easily modify any Windows icon and replace it with another icon in the Windows system. Also, Microangelo On Display comes with several dozen stylish and artistic icons in its library to choose from.
One bug is that on my 32-bit Windows XP, despite repeated attempts, I couldn't change any of the major icons under My Computer, such as the hard drive, DVD drive or external drive. Microangelo claimed the icons were changed, but even after clicking Rebuild System Cache (an option that's supposed to update the display with the changed icons), the icons remained as they were.
Compared to IconCool's suite of products, Microangelo On Display is rather limited, in that it has no icon editing feature of its own. That functionality is left up to the Microangelo's suite of programs, Microangelo Toolset. However, instead of having to manually extract icons from programs as with IconCool, Microangelo simply sees them all by default. Another difference: Microangelo On Display comes with only a few dozen icons compared to IconCool's thousands.
