Editorial Review of EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition

When last I visited Easeus Partition Master Home Edition (reviewed as then called Easeus Partition Manager Home 2.0.1) I said, "So what if there's a window-wide banner ad trying to sell you more of the company's products?" Free partitioning was well worth it. Well, if the program was worth it with the noise, it's invaluable without it, and version 3.5 seems clean as a whistle when it comes to advertisements.

The program earned my respect last go-round, when it created, deleted, formatted, moved and resized partitions in my rigorous tire-kicking with real hard drives. I did spot a glitch in version 3.5 that didn't occur with version 2.01; Easeus PMHE failed to recognize the c: drive in my VMWare test VM as having a valid partition. Luckily, operations are virtual until you click the Apply button so you may construct complex partitioning chores in relative safety. Even so, if you haven't been warned at least a hundred times: Back up your hard drive before you edit your partition table.

Surprisingly enough, Easeus Partition Master Home Edition includes a bootable ISO image that you can burn to CD and work from to initialize a blank drive prior to OS installation. It booted fine for me, but it's only good for OS preparation since, understandably, the move and resize functions are absent. Easeus sells two different and more robust versions of the program to businesses, but Easeus PMHE should be more than enough for the majority of home users.

Version 4.0.1 addendum: New features include the ability to expand the operating system partition without rebooting, copying of Windows dynamic disks (software RAID), and support for 2TB hard drives. All worked fine in my hands-on evaluation, and the glitch from 3.5 that had the program not liking my VMware hard drives has been fixed.
