Editorial Review of TeamViewer
TeamViewer is a simple, straightforward program that allows you to view and control a remote computer via a numerical ID and password system. It works behind a firewall, so there's no need to reconfigure one to allow TeamViewer to do its thing.
TeamViewer is awesome for tech support, as it allows the technician to make fixes on his or her own. It can also be configured to require confirmation for any action in the form of a large icon, meaning a host can demonstrate a fix to the client easily.
The host computer has to install TeamViewer, but the client can run the executable without installation, allowing for impromptu desktop control in emergency situations. The host can switch with the client with one click, share files, and even reboot the client's system if so desired.
The ID/password system means that you can use TeamViewer without worrying about someone hijacking your system. It's also free for personal use. A relative of yours is getting over his or her computer phobia and can't explain the problem over the phone? This ought to do the trick.
Note: TeamViewer is completely free for personal use. Anyone using it in a business environment will need to purchase a license. These licenses start at $249 for a six-month period.
