Editorial Review of Custom Desktop Logo
Custom Desktop Logo puts a graphic of your choice anywhere on your desktop. That's your logo. This logo is always on top of the screen if you want (though it doesn't interfere with anything below it), and you can click that logo to quickly jump to a pre-set folder of your choice. This is useful as it allows businesses to brand their computers, while also allowing quick navigation between important folders that may be on different network drives.
Annoyingly, desktop logos must be PNG images, a lossless image format that's not as widely used as GIF or JPG. Custom Desktop Logo supports animation, but since PNG doesn't, the program asks you to save each frame of the animation as a separate file. This could easily be gotten around by including support for GIF, which does animation natively.
Also, images must be stored inside the program's Images folder, or in a subfolder there, and nowhere else. It stands to reason that your favorite images would be elsewhere, and you're not going to want to take the time to copy them into Custom Desktop Logo's folder.
One discovered bug is that the Drop Folder tab in Settings is supposed to allow you to drag and drop new folders into the list. Despite several attempts, I wasn't able to drop a new folder in, and had to click Browse to find the folder manually.
Desktop Logo 1.1 from the defunct MT-Soft allowed you to use other types of images, but it hasn't been supported since 2004. Other than the inconvenience of having to save your logo in a different format (and splitting it up into frames for animation), Custom Desktop Logo does the trick.
