This package of bug fixes is not a required upgrade, but Microsoft does recommend that customers install it. Among other things, it fixes slow DirextX performance; a bug in the disk defragmenter that causes the FAT32 volume to hang on long path names; a bug that causes high CPU usage when your computer is running on battery; and a leak in bandwidth if you're using IEEE 1394 video capture.
