Editorial Review of Clipdiary
Clipdiary does exactly what it's intended to: It saves everything that you copy to the Windows clipboard and makes it all available in one convenient interface, available across programs via a hotkey combo.
The program is very simple to use. It loads at startup and resides in your system tray. Just work as normal, and when you want access to something you've copied to the clipboard--even days ago--press Ctrl-D or click the Clipdiary icon. Make sure your cursor is positioned where you want the copied text or image to appear, then select the item and hit Enter. You can also use the Clip menu or toolbar buttons to copy, paste, and delete items from Clipdiary.
Clipdiary is beta software, and as such has a few rough edges. The Empty Clipboard command didn't work in my tests, for example, and I needed to delete items one by one. This was a bit of an issue for me, since Clipdiary uses a fair amount of memory. I kept getting "out of memory" errors when performing routine tasks in Microsoft Excel while running Clipdiary. Another issue--which I cleared up by visiting the Web site's support forum--was that I often use Ctrl-D in Word, so I needed to change Clipdiary's hotkey combo to one that I don't already use.
Minor annoyances aside, this Clipdiary beta is free and definitely worth a try. The Web site's support forum is quite active, so if you experience issues you can get answers quickly.
