Editorial Review of Zigtag Extension

Do you spend an inordinate amount of time browsing Web sites and talking about them with friends? Has your bookmarks list gotten out of control? Then you'll likely enjoy Zigtag, a browser extension for Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Zigtag allows you to tag your favorite Web sites with any number of key phrases and easily browse through the resulting groups. You can also share tagged Web sites with friends who also use Zigtag, and discuss them as well. Zigtag is basically a social networking site with fairly sophisticated tagging capabilities.

In my tests Zigtag worked as advertised. It places a large vertical tool bar on the left side of the browser window, so I needed to browse in full-screen mode to see enough of the Web pages I was viewing. Tagging favorite Web sites with Zigtag-defined tags is a bit clunky, since you need to slowly type into the "Enter Tag Here" field and browse the results to select a tag. Alternatively, you could quickly type in your own tags; they appear at the top of the drop-down list the next time you use them. You can also select from Zigtag's helpful suggestions. Once you've built up a store of tagged sites, it's simple to browse through them by entering tags.

Zigtag is free, so if you enjoy working with tags and want to easily share and discuss Web sites with friends, give it a try. If you don't like it, you can easily uninstall the add-on from within your browser.

Note: This link takes you to the vendor's site, where you need to set up an account in order to download the appropriate version of the browser extension.
