    Duration of ownership: 2 Years

Strengths: cost, very many features, ease of use. Cloning is a feature rarely found in free backup programs.

Weaknesses: no "PE" disc with the free version.

Overall Evaluation: Considering this is a 100% free, no strings attached program, it's hard to beat. When I first starting using Todo at version 2.0, it was a good, basic, free backup program without the frills. Now it has the frills also! This version (3.5) is feature filled, & all one could want for free.

Strengths: free and solid code safe for my disks

Weaknesses: interface could use a makeover

Overall Evaluation: I have used many tools and probably still prefer Acronis products for partition backup images but Acronis was not free. As to the guy who gives it 1 star because he can't find the download link... try reading the screen where it says If the download doesn't begin automatically within a few seconds, click here. You don't have to do anything except maybe read before giving up and wasting time blasting a perfectly good free product which will benefit many users.

Strengths: Free; Does almost everything you'd want; paid version has Win PE creation built-in.

Weaknesses: Awful interface, You have to go to separate windows of the program to do what could easily be done in one window.

Overall Evaluation: ToDo has probably the most unintuitive interface of any program -- backup or not -- that I've used. It has a "plan" and a "task", but it doesn't explain the difference, and I still haven't figured it out. HELP file has typos and a very bad translation from whatever language it was originally written in. After I've defined a plan/task and then define another one, the program wants to add my first plan/task to my second one. So I have to be sure to deselect the first plan/task. When I go to Backup Management to edit a plan/task, I don't get all the options I had when I initially defined it, and some of the options have been reset. If it weren't for the clumsy, unintuitive interface I'd rate it much higher. It needs a complete redesign.

Strengths: It's Free. It comes from a company that makes very good disc tools. It provides all the pieces needed.

Weaknesses: None that I can see.

Overall Evaluation: It's very complete: does a great job of making an image, allowing you to mount that image to peruse if needed and even makes a boot CD for those with XP (Win 7 has its own Boot CD creator). I've used the disc recovery software (not a free product) from this company that saved tens of thousands of lost files on a hard drive that lost its master boot record, so I like this company's work. The official site for this product is http://www.todo-backup.com and as I write, v1.1 is the release and a v2.0 beta is available. I am using v1.1 for now. Because you get so much for free, I'm giving it all 5 stars and disagree with the other writer who gave it one star.
