Fast Duplicate File Finder will help you find fast all duplicate files in a folder and its sub folders. The applications will compare the content of your files so it will find duplicates even if they are using different file names. It uses fast binary comparison algorithm and has internal preview supporting a lot of image, video, music and text file formats. You can also preview the files in binary mode. When the scan process is finished the program shows you all duplicate files in groups and can automatically mark the older files for deletion. The auto mark algorithm has advanced settings to exclude from auto mark files with user specified extensions, file sizes, file dates and file names. You can also set which folders you want to exclude from the auto mark. There is an option to protect system files and folders which is recommended to be turned on.   Strengths: Probably found the dups . . .

  Weaknesses: Could do nothing with them because one had to take the PRO version.

  Strengths: It does find duplicates, very nicely. The similar files search does beautifully.

  Weaknesses: I don't know - it's a crippled version, so I can't use anything but search when I'm looking for similar files. Identical files only works for pure duplicates (copies, basically) - that one has full function, apparently, but as I don't have any perfect duplicate files it's hard to check.

  Overall Evaluation: The program's pretty good; PCWorld's review is either wrong or old. It's _not_ free, especially the 'binary compare' section which is FDFF's unique trick - after (a very long) scan, it tells you it will only show you 10 groups and then you can't delete or move the files. I've done a few manually, using FDFF as just info, but that's ANNOYING. It's a decent free finder for identical files (that is, files with the same names, same tags, same everything); the neat binary search, however, costs $40. I'd be less annoyed if PCW hadn't misled me.
