  Duration of ownership: 4 Years

  Strengths: Not many.

  Weaknesses: Rarely any updates. Almost no attempt to fix broken webcam issues. Unreliable webcam (only works with some webcams, sometimes). Bought Pro subcription (12 months full updates) and there was NO updates, except protocal updates. Skinning is diverse, but most are rubbish, including the default skin. Annoying forms will not set to any kind of default without editing ini files. Slow. Have to pay for Jabber... an OPEN PROTOCOL... idiots. Have to pay for a decent way to view your history, otherwise flat text. I made support requests over my 12 months and NONE were replied to.

  Overall Evaluation: Use Pidgen. It has good plugins also, it looks like a windows app and can be skinned slightly, but still works like windows applications. Runs on linux etc of course. Some might say it isn't as nice to look at, but the reliablity and the ammount of protocols it supports (for free) make it MUCH better. Could try gAIM, bit ugly, but still better.

  Strengths: None for me YET. Maybe I'll figure it out, maybe.

  Weaknesses: Won't connect to other IM clients I use. Aim, yahoo, msm gmail

  Duration of ownership: 1 Weeks

  Strengths: All contacts, regardless of provider, are shown at the same time. Excellent, easy to review and remember.

  Weaknesses: When checking for email, i. e. reviewing an older email, at the same provider (i.e. Yahoo), you are redirected to the login name you used last time you logged in. So you manually have to select "login as a different user".

  Duration of ownership: 4 Years

  Strengths: Simple interface. Handels all IM clients. No spam/ads.

  Weaknesses: None that I can tell

  Overall Evaluation: The only reason this product didn't beat out all the other IM products is because nobody knows about it. While all the sheep in the world know about AOL (ugh) and Yahoo; who is promoting Trillian? Nobody, that's who, you have to find out about this FANTASTIC application by word of mouth or a little leg work.
