Description of WordDog

Writers want to get their point across as eloquently as possible, but don't always have an editor at their disposal. To their rescue comes WordDog, which points out more than 15,900 wordy phrases, unnecessary words, and overworked expressions, and suggests alternatives. WordDog also sniffs out gender-specific words and supplies gender-neutral options. When WordDog uncovers a suspicious word or phrase, it allows you to choose from a list of alternatives or to delete the culprit; you can then preview the edit.

WordDog doesn't pretend to be your master: if you tell it to let your favorite phrases be, it'll stop trying to fetch alternatives. It works with several breeds of English, including American, Australian, Canadian, and the Queen's own. WordDog also provides links to Web-based grammar guides, dictionaries, thesauruses, encyclopedias, and quotations.

Note: This demo works on its included documents, but only the full version can improve your deathless prose.
