These days, if you're concerned about Internet threats, you're not paranoid: You're acting responsibly. Norton Personal Firewall is a good source of protection, whether you have an always-on connection, or dial-in occasionally.
Norton Personal Firewall alerts you of any unauthorized attempts in entering your computer, and it automatically stops the probe. As an extra measure of protection, you can limit which applications can access the Internet; if you don't feel qualified to decide this, you can let the program determine which ones require Internet access the most. The program will alert you if you unthinkingly try to perform risky actions, like sending a credit card number over an unsecured connection. You can also use this program to block Java applets, ActiveX controls, and cookies on a site-by-site basis; similarly, you can and keep web servers from retrieving your email address or other information without your knowledge. Home Network Assistant automatically detects local systems, and an exclusive firewall automatic firewall application sets up common firewall rules. It also blocks confidential information in AOL and MSN instant messenger applications.
In this version, the firewall will turn itself back on after a period of being shut down. This protects your system from remaining unguarded for a prolonged period of time.
