Strengths: very sensitive, feature-rich
Weaknesses: too sensitive, doesn't "learn" your surfing habits
Overall Evaluation: If you're overly paranoid and don't enjoy surfing the net faster than one site every 5 minutes, then this program is for you. WinPatrol definitely detects unusual behaviors in your PC, but it's like a car alarm that has the sensitivity turned all the way up. Everything sets it off.

Strengths: Protects your computer. This is not a first line of defense but if you need to know what is happening This will tell you. You have to buy it, and learn it. helps control Windows.
Weaknesses: You have to buy it, and learn it. (Does not pretend to be virus protection or firewall.) Plus version is lifetime (of BillP) subscription
Overall Evaluation: Great program to use with virus protection and firewall. You must have Plus version.

Strengths: Fantastic program. Having XP home version limits the types of accounts I can have. Using a guest account is too much of a pain. WinPatrol doesn't allow changes to the registry without my premission. If it weren't free I would buy it.

Strengths: Very small footprint. Uses a negligible amount of system resources. No adware, spyware, nagware, pop ups, etc., etc. Quite effective at warning of changes to startup programs, BHO's, HOSTS file, etc.
Weaknesses: The free version offers only very, very basic information. Whatever may be found on the local machine. Leaves you wanting more info.
Overall Evaluation: I have used this software for about 2 years now and highly recommend it. I have the paid ("Plus") version and it is worth every penny I paid for it. A great program which helps users to figure out just what the heck is going on in their machines and take control. I think you will not be sorry if you buy this program. It is very light on your machines resources.

Strengths: Security, convenience in managing Staup Folder, and control over the boot-up process.
Weaknesses: None
Overall Evaluation: WinPatrol's new version, v. 11.1.2007, from BillP Studios, has the usual security features, which previous version have provided. These include safeguarding your default Search engine, Start Page, Favorites, and Hosts file. It provides the handiest version of the System Configuration Utility (MSCONFIG). Well, now the new free version is available, after a beta run. The new version allows you to have certain programs start up after variable delays. Easy to use. So, for example, after Windows loads, then my security programs, Internet Explorer opens. Saves wear and tear on my mouse buttons, and provide a faster boot-up. This is the way computers are supposed to work.
