Strengths: It's small in size at a little under 10 MB and loads blazingly fast. Unsurpassed clarity and sharpness in the superior image viewer. It has great collage program built in. The professional and simple user interface allows seemingly effortless navigation. It's great photo/folder organization was what really reeled me in. Also, emailing photos is as simple as clicking/selecting one or more photos, click the email icon, type in the address and click send. No resizing photos or cropping needed it done automatically. Blogging and web uploading is just as simple. It has auto cropping suggestions which is a really neat and new feature. The latest version now shows histogram and exif data (Optional) and also now supports the Camera RAW format. It's biggest strength is it's FREE. Simply a brilliant and user friendly product.
Weaknesses: The only thing I could consider a weakness is it doesn't prompt to save edited images as copies of the original. When you click apply, it applies edits to original image as well. Unless I overlooked it some how. However, the easy fix is to copy the image first and then edit and save.
Overall Evaluation: This is an a Outstanding program. I rated it very good only because it does not have layering or masking capability but beggars can't be choosy. As a (Budget Restricted) beginner in photography, this program exceeded my expectations and fit well below the lines of my targeted price range. Well done Picasa!!!!!!!!
