    Duration of ownership: 1 Days

Strengths: None that I can see, it is free though.

Weaknesses: The software does not work. I wanted clean off a WD 120Gb hard drive so I ran a 'Shred Free Disk Space' using the DoD 5220-22.M algorithm. When the program had finished I wanted to check its effectiveness so I ran Restoration Version 2.5.1.4 and I was able to see all the 11199 files that had been on the drive. I selected several files and I was able to restore and view the files.

Overall Evaluation: Not recommended if you want to secureley wipe your files as the program does not seem to do what it claims.

    Strengths:

Weaknesses: Start messages need to identify which disk is about to be shredded. A way is needed to give low priority to the shredding process so that normal work may continue unimpeded. There is no way to contact the product author/developer. More help information about how the product functions would allay user concerns. i.e. is it ok to continue normal work while this program executes? What does message "buffer flush" mean? Can multiple versions of program be started and ran concurrently by the same user? Can multiple versions of program be started and ran concurrently by different users?

Overall Evaluation: While many users appreciate the availability of free software, including this one, free software is only useful if it meets a level of professionalism that is expected since the PC software environment is complicated. The days of DOS are long gone for the average PC user.
