Strengths: Didn't find any -- the weakness stopped everything cold.
Weaknesses: The program investigated one file for more than 24 hours and never provided what I assumed would be a list of duplicates (or at least a report I could print). When I looked for the file, it didn't exist. I guess the program hung when it found something (heaven knows what) that made it choke.
Overall Evaluation: Phoey - I WASTED 24 hours of my computer time on this.

Strengths: Looked promising.
Weaknesses: Just a rotten hook! Found thousands of files in documents and setting but each folder has to be manually selected for deletes.
Overall Evaluation: Junk! Appears to be a come-on/scan to get you to buy the $50 utility with a different name; Duplicate Finder v3.5.3.

Strengths: Comprehensive and protective. Deleted all dups except the latest into my recycle bin and haven't had to access any of them yet.
Weaknesses: Incomplete help file--doesn't tell you the secret to deleting/moving/renaming all dups at once, making you think you have to do them one by one.
Overall Evaluation: Like others, I thought you had to individually check each file--with duplicates running into the thousands, that wasn't going to happen. Then I found the trick. After the search is completed, put your mouse anywhere in the results box and RIGHT CLICK. This will bring up the box that will give you the ability to delete or move or re-name all files at once. Before beginning, I've set a restore point on my Windows XP as a precaution, then deleted all duplicates, saving only the latest. Noticed that when I tried to close Win XP, Windows Explorer wasn't shutting down immediately. Ran a registry check/fix and the problem went away.

Strengths: Better interface than most commercial duplicate finders. HAS CRC comparison which makes this free product worthwhile
Weaknesses: Will not ignore MSOcache; finds nuisance duplicates that lead inexperiencd user to kill a CAB file that might be used in a future install; Byte by Byte matching for the really huge >100MB file sizes will take a lot of CPU and time to complete; the selection checkmark processing is a weakness (check out other comments- its a common complaint; perhaps all the OLDER or SECOND+ DUPES should be default checked);cannot save older indexed searches so that subsequent runs just search on an incremental basis; help file really bad; no USER FORUM area where experienced users can opine about DUPE file management techniques; I can see how this simple to use tool could be potentially dangerous for inexperienced users; some dupes will be necessary to Windows operation (such as the MSOcache which IMHO should be EXCLUDED/"protected" like the system folder option in this program); there should be an exclusion mask as well as includion
Overall Evaluation: I will keep searching for a good tool with PRO level features. Archival Management will someday include heuristic capabilites in selection of dupes that must be kept, and those that could be archived and compressed on NAS, to those that could be tossed out and disk-secure-wiped. Maybe my expectation is too high, but dupe finding is only one of several storage tasks that need some careful thought and time. I will try the IMAGE CLONE FINDER Program this developer has on origination web site. ***This DupeFileFinder Utility has potential- I observe this developer reads these comments and is reactive.

Strengths: does find alot of dup files.
Weaknesses: do not delete all of the dups cause it shows original files so keep one of the latest if you want the duplicate file.would like a select all key instead you have to go to each fiel and check off.
Overall Evaluation: very good for free. would like more ways to be sure if file is safe to delete. And would like the above suggestions so if have alot of pictures to delete not have to go to each file to check off.

Strengths: Ability to choose which drive to search, amount of description helps you choose what to delete; satisfactory speed searching and identifying the duplicates
Weaknesses: Caution led me to select files one by one - I didn't see another way to do it - but this is a very time consuming process.
Overall Evaluation: As a non-tech user, while I found this useful to eliminate obvious unnecessary duplicates, I wasn't confident to assume that all files it found are deletable; many file descriptions were still incomprehensible to me so couldn't make informed decision about deletion. For a user like me, caution would suggest doing this in the company of a more technically savvy user who can explain various file descriptions. I did save 143Mb, but for now put them in Trash and will back them up externally before deleting permanently, in case I've made some goofs.

Strengths: Simple interface, speedy scan, clear groupings, good error handling, Results can be selected by date (newest/oldest), can delete permanently or to recycle bin.
Weaknesses: No way to select groups of files to include/exclude files from a folder. Single-type or all file-type scanning (Mask type file scanning) with only one file type scanned at a time. No folder exclusion option.
Overall Evaluation: A very nice, if simple, duplicate file finder. The masking option can make it difficult to scan for multiple file types (jpg & jpeg = 2 different searches, but jp*g = 1 search) It's important to scan only specific folders and specific file types for best results. If properly set, it does a very nice job of cleaning up duplicate files. But be sure to carefully review the selected files to be deleted as wholesale deleting can be hazardous to your data. For what it does, it does a good job.
