Strengths: Don't know - wasn't able to download.

Weaknesses: When I clicked on "Download" I received a popup ad from PCTools for an anti spyware product.

Overall Evaluation: Can't get to it to evaluate it! Where's the popup from PCWorld coming from?

    Weaknesses: As Above

Overall Evaluation: Very disappointed, when I tried to download this file, stopzilla terminated the download, saying there was a virus.

Strengths: -Adjusts delay of programs on startup -Stops undesired programs from loading -Warns when programs reload themselves in the queue so you know to go into the main program to work startup settings Lets you start programs on startup that don't normally start automatically

Weaknesses: Have not found a way to set the order that programs with "zero" delay start

Overall Evaluation: Awesome utility, as described, wish I installed it months ago. I also use the utility "CS Fire Monitor" which shows CPU utilization. I used CS Fire in conjunction with Startup Delayer Countdown monitor to determine how long the CPUs were fully engaged on startup, then adjusted startup timings so each utility/program starts when the CPUs are not fully occupied. It took about 4-5 iterations to get all the timings right, now my startup is usable much quicker. Also nice, it lets you add in additional programs (in my case Outlook and Firefox) which you want all the time. I especially like that Startup Delayer warns you when programs override the delay settings so you can go into the programs and adjust them. Highly recommended.

Strengths: Able to choose which programs I wish delayed at startup. Easy to use.

    Weaknesses: none

Overall Evaluation: My boot seems much more smooth. I just love this little program. I have it saved with my important programs. It's a must have I feel.

Strengths: Plenty: drag and drop to the bottom box and use the slider to adjust the delay time, or open the item and adjust to more than 2 minute delay. Nice small graphical interfact telling you how much longer before the next program will start...and you can start it earlier if desired by clicking on Start Now. The problem with Deactivated is not a "problem". the programs wording is a bit different. Instead of Save, or Enable Now, it's Activate to enable the program to do it's thing. By double clicking the program you can set the time in hours, seconds and/or minutes. No need to figure out how many seconds 3 minutes is.

Weaknesses: I haven't been able to find a way to adjust the order of the items I leave in for normal boot time, but you can still adjust the time delay, if desired.

Overall Evaluation: The comment about 'doesn't solve the problem' doesn't state the problem that the user had. Also, the Vista crash doesn't state what was going on elsewhere that might be crashing the system. Nor does it state that it crashed every time the user ran it. These poor reviews are poorly stated as to the reason they don't like the program.

Strengths: Did what I needed it to do - delay a specific startup program that would not load properly

Weaknesses: none for me so far

Overall Evaluation: I had a specific program (nitropdf printer monitor) that wouldn't load on boot-up due to conflict with something else loading. I used Startup delayer to postpone loading of nitro pdf printer monitor & so far all is okay. I set a few other bootup items to delay also. No problems, but I don't know if it makes computer available for use quicker or not as this was not my main use for Startup delay

Strengths: Works as described. Simple to use

Weaknesses: None. (You can create a delay longer than 3 minutes by right-clicking the item and setting the time there. I have programs delayed an hour.

Overall Evaluation: Excellent. I run it on two Vista machines and no longer dread restarting, with my command prompt active seven minutes sooner. Because of the negative reviews, I worked with the program for a month before writing this review. And the user who believes that MSCONFIG does this is woefully uniformed.

    Weaknesses: none

Overall Evaluation: Works as described. I have delayed the startup of indexing & syncing programs. I am now able to logon to Outlook as soon as my wireless connection is made.

    Strengths: none

Weaknesses: Doesn't actually solve the problem, and requires careful uninstall.

Overall Evaluation: Might be useful for some, but the delayed load can slow launched applications. There is no free lunch. MORE IMPORTANT, if you don't like it, be VERY careful when uninstalling. Get rid of ALL delayed program designations before uninstalling. If you don't, you will have to fiddle with start>run>msconfig forever to get things back to where they were before you installed this mostly useless program.

Strengths: Speeds up startup by deferring execution of low-priority programs, just as promised, with a clean & intuitive interface.

    Weaknesses: none found so far

Overall Evaluation: This is a very helpful little utility. The prior comment that it is obsoleted by MSCONFIG is misinformed. MSCONFIG merely turns off startup executions; it does not delay them. It also isn't for permanent use, only for debugging use. Startup Delayer is much more powerful and useful.
