  Duration of ownership: 2 Years

  Strengths: 1. Portability. You can have the same office suite you use at work and home on any Windows computer you're allowed to run your own software on. I know the installed version, at least, is also available for Linux. 2. Large, active development community providing frequent updates.

  Weaknesses: Performance issues using this huge program via a flash drive and usb connection keep it from being as quick and stable as the regular installed version. It has occasionally crashed but upon restarting has never failed to automatically recover the document in progress.

  Overall Evaluation: Preston Gralla missed the boat on this one, the whole point of developing this version is portability. You can use it on another computer where it may not be installed and you don't have rights to install software. They specifically designed it to not leave any changes on the host computer, so how can you complain that there's no desktop icon or entry in the start menu? And since there's no registry entries, to 'uninstall' it you just delete the folder or pull out the flash drive. Note that the program is highly compressed, allow ~4 times as much room on your flash drive.
