    Duration of ownership: 4 Years

    Strengths: It identifies Windows patches that are missing or broke. It gives a detailed summary of the hardware and software installed in the system. The detailed list of installed software infrequently identifies malware such as tool bars, Wild Tangent, etc., as well as identifying duplicate software or older versions of software that can or should be deleted, like older versions of Adobe Acrobat.

    Weaknesses: Since Adobe Photoshop Elements version 6 Belarc does not display the license. Manually write that license on a print out for safe keeping

    Overall Evaluation: Installing and running Belarc is one of the first lessons I give my Adult Ed students. Don"t leave home without it.

    Strengths: Finds an amazing amount of information about your computer. Free, simple, easy to use, doesn't take up much HD space.

    Strengths: Amazingly fast and simple, and FREE!

    Weaknesses: It failed to detect my network drive-nest.

    Overall Evaluation: How often have you needed the Serial Number of your computer, or specific info about your ardware or OS or bios? Sure, it is written down somewhere in your computer log, but it is a hassle to look it up. Here is a fast / free diagnostic app the gives it to you in a few seconds.

    Strengths: Everything you might need to know on one page. To understand computers, you should go through this listing and understand what you are reading.

    Weaknesses: Can't think of info not there

    Overall Evaluation: I keep it on flash memory as backup.
