Existing PCWorld Magazine Subscriber FAQ

Q: Why can't I get the print magazine any longer?

Like the PCWorld that started back in1983, the PCWorld of today is still committed to the basic tenets of technological progress: We love consumer electronics. We embrace forward movement. And we're interested in all the different ways we can use technology to make life more fun, convenient and productive.

Beginning with our September issue, PCWorld will be fully committing to all digital formats, directly marrying our magazine to the very digital technology we write about every month.

It's now easier than ever for magazine publishers like PCWorld to create exciting digital experiences that combine the best features of print magazines with all the multimedia features (video, animation and more) enabled by PCs and tablets. Meanwhile, today's PCWorld subscriber owns multiple devices for reading'and experiencing'all that digital magazines have to offer. A large number of PCWorld readers own tablets, and all of our readers own PCs. So, beginning with our September issue, you'll find digital magazine editions for Android, iOS and Kindle devices, as well as replica, versions for reading on laptops and desktops.

In essence, we have all your digital magazine bases covered. Whether you're a current PCWorld subscriber or want to start subscribing today, you can immediately begin using the digital version of your choice via PCWorld's Digital All Access Pass.  Point your browser to pcworld.com/magazines to learn all about it. Our Enhanced Editions come with extra digital features like video tutorials, while our Replica Editions more closely resemble traditional print magazines, and are perfect for people who want to read PCWorld on laptops and desktop displays.

All editions, of course, offer the same great benefits common to digital media, starting with greater levels of interactivity - everything from pinch and zoom in the Replica Editions, to rich multimedia in the Enhanced Editions.  Digital magazines also save critical shelf space, as all your issues can be archived on a storage drive, or in the cloud.

Q: Will it cost me anything to switch to the digital edition?

No. There is no additional charge for the change. If you're a current subscriber, you have full access to all of the digital PCWorld editions for the remainder of your subscription at no additional cost. Please contact PCWorld Customer Service for more information by contacting maghelp@pcworld.com.

Once activated, you'll have started your PCWorld Digital All-Access Pass which allows you to receive PCWorld in any of our editions, on any and all of your devices.

Q: What digital versions are available?

Currently, PCWorld is available in two digital editions, the Enhanced Editions and the Replica Editions. With the Digital-All Access Pass you'll get:

The PCWorld Enhanced Editions differ from Replica and replica versions of the magazine and incorporate rich multimedia content, including videos, interactive slideshows and features, podcasts, and other elements. The pages are all optimized and include support for high-resolution displays, and are remastered into device-intuitive layouts that allow for unique navigation through each issue. Your options include using the interactive table of contents, swiping from page to page, or gliding through article content with the tip of your finger. Embedded links take you directly to related information within the issue as well as to websites for additional content, and the app allows you to bookmark and share articles via email and Twitter.

Replica Editions

The Replica editions are an exact replica of the print magazine in PDF-like format. With the Replica editions you can flip through the pages, just as you would in the print version. Q: Can read the Enhanced Editions in landscape and in portrait mode?

No, unfortunately the Enhanced Editions only support portrait mode.

However, the Replica Editions of PCWorld support reading in both landscape and in portrait mode. If you’re an existing print subscriber or you’ve purchased the PCWorld Digital All-Access Pass, you can access any edition of PCWorld you choose. For instructions on how to get the Replica Editions on your Kindle:

Q: How much disk space does the PCWorld Digital Magazine (U.S.) app use?

The file size of the app is approximately 1MB. However, the space that the app takes up on your Kindle Fire depends on the number of issues you have downloaded on your device.

Q: How much disk space does a typical issue consume?

When you download an issue, its file size is approximately 125MB to 250MB.

Q: Will digital archives be available? If so, will there be a charge to access the archives?

Each issue you receive remains stored on your device for easy access and archiving. Issues published prior to our launch date in May 2013 (beginning with the June 2013 issue) are not available for the Enhanced Kindle Edition.

Q:  How do I delete an issue?

In your Library list, you'll see an Archive button under each issue. Tap this button, and you will delete the issue from active storage on your device. At any time you can re-download the issue at no charge.

Q:  I don't see the issues I've purchased or downloaded.

If the issues you've purchased are not listed in your Library, and you are an existing subscriber or you’ve bought the PCWorld Digital All-Access Pass, first try signing out and back in to your account.

On your Kindle Fire:

On your Kindle Fire HD or higher:

If you are a print subscriber or you’ve purchased the PCWorld Digital All-Access Pass, or if you’ve received your issues by buying a single issue or a monthly recurring subscription from within the app, follow the instructions below.

On your Kindle Fire:

“Make sure that you have network connectivity and press clear data to restore default settings. Your issues entitlements will be synchronized from the server and the Amazon Market when starting the application again. Once successfully completed, you can download your issues again.”

On your Kindle HD or higher:

“Make sure that you have network connectivity and press clear data to restore default settings. Your issues entitlements will be synchronized from the server and the Amazon Market when starting the application again. Once successfully completed, you can download your issues again.”

Q:  I can’t download one or more issues.  I get an error when downloading a particular issue.

Try again in a location with a good Wi-Fi connection.  Make sure that your device has enough space.  If the app indicates that an update is available for the issue, download the update and then try to download your issue again.

Q:  Can I transfer my subscription to another device?

You may access your purchased issues or subscription on another Kindle Fire or Kindle Fire HD (or higher) running the PCWorld Digital Magazine (U.S.) app if you're signed in under the same Amazon account on both devices. After you’ve ensured that you have the same Amazon account active on both devices:

Q: All of the text disappeared on the screen. How do I get it back?

Many of the articles have artwork underneath. Double-tapping the text hides the text allowing you to see the underlying image. Double-tapping again brings the text back.

Q: My app keeps crashing. What can I do?

We’re sorry to hear that some users are experiencing crashing and download problems. For best performance, shut down any other apps running in the background. If problems persist, force-quit the app and then reopen it. If you're still having trouble, try turning your device off and then turning it back on. You can also try deleting and reinstalling the app. If none of those solutions work, please let us know.

Q: What other Enhanced Editions are available? For what other devices have you created an Enhanced Edition?
