The Sharp LL-172A-B impressed our jury with its crisp text, particularly in the Microsoft Word and Excel screens. In fact, it earned the highest text score of all 17-inch LCDs we've tested lately. Graphics looked less spectacular; detail was obscured in darker areas of our photo and color-scale screens. Nevertheless, good reproduction of our Web page screen and appetizing color in a photo screen helped the LL-172A-B earn a graphics rating of Very good. Numerous advanced controls, including gain control, white balance, and gamma control, will help experienced users tweak the screen to their liking. The LL-172A-B has no digital video interface.

Upshot: The Sharp LL-172A-B delivers crystal-clear text at a reasonable price.Rated 4 stars
