KDS VS 195i

The VS 195i's price, sharp text, and large display area are ideal for buyers on a budget, but graphic designers may not be satisfied.

WHAT'S HOT: The VS 195i's price makes this 19-inch model one of the least-expensive monitors on the chart. Text on the VS 195i looked sharp and was easy to read at small point sizes.

WHAT'S NOT: Colors on photos and on Web pages didn't look nearly as bright as they did on other displays. A lack of controls for focus and convergence (which adjusts how red, green, and blue pixels align) makes this monitor a poor choice for graphics professionals who need to make fine adjustments. While other models come with daily 24-hour support, KDS works the phone for 11 hours, Monday to Friday.

WHAT ELSE: Despite leaving out some expected controls, the VS 195i does include controls for zoom and moire. One easy-to-rotate button on the bezel lets you adjust all the settings. Though the monitor's documentation is fairly well organized, it doesn't include a troubleshooting section.

UPSHOT: The VS 195i's appealing price, sharp text, and large display area make it ideal for buyers on a budget, but due to its slightly subpar graphics and its lack of some key controls, we don't recommend it for professional graphics use.
