Windows Media Player 9 Series, optimized for Windows XP, is in the final stages of the beta program. (If you have installed an earlier version of the beta, Microsoft recommends you download the release candidate.) Some of the new features: Six channels of sound with new 5.1 Surround. You can view or add your own synchronized lyrics to music files, displayed as captions. Also: improved startup time and media library performance, and improvements in the Mini-Player mode, Info Center View, Album Lookup, and Queue-it-Up.
