| Description | This open source file-sharing client aims to 'ruthlessly devour the hegemony of the music distributors.' Espra uses Freenet as the network through which users share their files. The one great advantage of Freenet over Gnutella or OpenNap is that file transfers are completely anonymous--leaving you free from worry about what information a marketing company could be collecting about your music habits. It also has no central point of failure, the 'Achilles' heel' of Napster and similar systems.
In the past, Freenet was a nightmare for non-tech-heads. It was difficult to navigate and required a command-line interface. This client, however, provides a graphical interface to Freenet. It's still in an early, somewhat raw form, but it's worth trying. |
