| Description | Just like our real-life homes, the Internet comes with nosy neighbors and loud ones. Guard-IE shields your Internet Explorer visits from prying eyes, helps defend against worms and Trojans, and keeps pop-up ads at bay. This utility package combines four programs--Pop-up Blocker, Web Evidence Remover, FLASH Ad Blocker, and Web Firewall--to protect your peace and quiet.
The suite works by integrating itself into Internet Explorer; it also suppresses pop-up windows used by many Web sites to display ads above or below the browser window. A "Smart White List" lets users allow certain pop-ups. It also kills "embedded drop-down ads" from sites that use these techniques, such as GeoCities and Yahoo. A script-blocker also prevents the resizing/moving of your browser windows and other obnoxious behavior. FLASH Ad Blocker prevents script-driven ads from launching. The vendor also keeps an updated ad database, identifying sites that use various techniques to impede your surfing with unwanted ads. A cookie manager lets you specify cookies to keep in a "Cookie White List." This way, shopping cart applications do not break and your privacy is still protected. Guard-IE also exposes Web bugs--small invisible images placed on Web pages to track and compile a history of your Web activities--by making them visible and supplying a report on their source. It removes not only the usual cookies and temporary files, but all form entries, typed URLs, and passwords. Guard-IE works with any connection: dial-up modem, cable, LAN, and DSL. |
