Manufacturer’s Description

You can use the AirPort Extreme Base Station with your 802.11b AirPort Card and still enjoy significant benefits. Thats because the AirPort Extreme Base Station features a Compatibility mode as its default setting. The Compatibility mode automatically supports not just the AirPort Extreme Card, but also the previous version of the AirPort Card and any other 802.11b-compliant product Mac or Windows. Compatibility mode enables both AirPort and AirPort Extreme-enabled computers to use an AirPort Extreme Base Station at the same time. The AirPort Extreme Base Station also features additional advantages, such as the 10/100Mbps WAN port that provides connectivity to DSL and cable modems; the external antenna connector for extending your wireless connectivity even further, beyond the 150-foot range of your built-in internal antennas (you can choose to connect either a directional or an omnidirectional antenna); and the USB connector for Mac OS X printer sharing.
