Kodak EasyShare DX6490 Review

- The EasyShare DX6490 straddles the line between our point-and-shoot and advanced camera chart categories. On the one hand, it has Kodak's helpful onscreen text aids, which explain what the camera is doing and how to use a particular function; it works with a Kodak docking station; and it has extremely simple menus. On the other, it has manual shooting modes, a wide range of apertures and shutter speeds, and an external flash connector. But it won't let you focus manually, and it offers few of the exotic imaging options you might find on other advanced models.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, 2.2 lcd, movie, vivid color and more

    Weaknesses: delay between picture takings

Overall Evaluation: I bought the KODAK DX6490 a little more than a year ago, at the price about $350. The first thing attracts me is its professional look. Indeed, with the power of 10x optical zoom, you really can make some pretty good pictures. Generally, it is excellent. Two things I noted: 1. the conitunous picture taking does not work well: either manual or automatic. 2. When you remove the battery, the date is lost. So you set the date and time repeatedly. I need to do that a couple of times every month.
