Strengths: This program is free at amazon with mail in rebate

    Weaknesses: none

    Overall Evaluation: see previous reveiw

Strengths: Easy to use and configure, complete set of security tools

    Weaknesses: CPU usage

Overall Evaluation: I downloaded the free trial of One Care to evaluate on my backup computer. It is a Pentium 3 800 mhz with 384 mb of ram, which is within the system requirements for OneCare. The program slowed the computer dramatically and often caused lockups. It took way too much time to load a simple program or go online. When I checked task manager it indicated the OneCare process was routinely using 80-100& of the cpu capability. In addition, running the tune up function took over 24 hours. Once I uninstalled ONe Care the computer operations returned to normal. The program may run better on a more powerful computer, but I was disappointed.

    Strengths: Great offers from MicroSoft

Weaknesses: Making you have to remove a number of your progarms...like Zone Alarm pro...Norton System Works...Adaware ..etc.

Overall Evaluation: No way...any program that makes you remove others to use it..is TRASH in my book.

Strengths: A CLEAN PC FOR OVER ! YEAR....once setup!

Weaknesses: A small number of Fake emails bypassed the email filters, however to be fair a percentage of less than half of one percent of total.

Overall Evaluation: Used in combination with Windows XP PRO and various Windows Live Suite of Products we have found it very acceptable. We are now recommending it to our clients for personal machines and small businesses.

Strengths: No viruses that I'm aware of so it probably works. On the other hand, I've never had a virus show up in 15 years. Maybe I've just been lucky but it really doesn't say anything good or bad about the product.

Weaknesses: Heaven help you if you forget either the User ID or the password. You'll get no help from Microsoft and the product becomes useless.

Strengths: Very Simple to use, intergrates Windows utilties such as Disk Defragmenter back up. Doesn't bog down system like other programs.

Weaknesses: Will go to "fair" state if you don't get updates from Microsoft.

Overall Evaluation: Really good system, simplifies things quite nicely.

Strengths: It does what is promises, automatically and without hassles. Auto backup to an external HD is a peace of cake. 1 click does the work.

Weaknesses: None found yet. No missing mails or whatsoever.

Overall Evaluation: Before you buy you may use it 90 days for free! Buying online and installing it with licenses for 3 PCs is a pleasure. You don't notice it's there until the task-bar icon turns orange to tell you there is some problem. If you use the optimization planner you don't even get that one (the orange colour that is ;-) It's great. Am waiting for a LOC extension that does the same with the PCs optimization .(register cleaning, defragging, temp files cleaning, hard-disk control etc. the whole shebang for which you now need 3 or 4 programs to get it done. Call it the Live One Click Optimizer. In short "LOCO"

Strengths: Works well with XP, easy to use

    Weaknesses: None

Overall Evaluation: This software, contrary to my gut instincts about the manufacturer, is surprisingly easy to use and effective. Not only does it protect your computer from internet threats, but it allows you to install on multiple computers, and renewing is a breeze! I like how integrated it becomes with the operating system, almost as if they were made by the same company (oh wait, they are).

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Easy to install- Very good about prompting users to scan and update- In the year of free beta and the year of a paid subscription, my PC has stayed Virus free. Seems to be integrated nicely with windows and less annoying than Norton. All in all, this has

Weaknesses: Canceling your subscription cannot be done online. You must call 866-663-2273 during normal business hours and cancel by phone.

Overall Evaluation: Nothing is straight forward when it comes to advanced problem solving and the program will nag the heck out of you if you work offline for days at a time.Your subscription is tied to a passport ID. This became annoying a year after I made it trying to remember it.Lastly...$50 is a lot of money per year. They really need to cut that price in half.

Strengths: Simple to use. Set it up and it does the rest.

Weaknesses: Take getting used to compared to other systems.

Overall Evaluation: Does a great job with Windows XP. Will keep you safe from viruses and make your computer run better. So simple that even a computer novice can have their system protected with the best utility to date.

Strengths: From Microsoft, may have better integration with the OS.

Weaknesses: Anti spyware is basically the same as Windows defender. Not very well integrated with OS.

Overall Evaluation: Pretty painless to use, everything is done automatically behind the scene. No annoying popup from the taskbar. In addition to check for virus and spyware, on the maintenance and performance side, OneCare performs tasks such as backing up data, applying patches and updates automatically, defrag the hard drive and cleaning the hard drive of unused files. This is nice if you don't already have norton or other tools that do these things. Also, it worked OK after I un-installed Mcafee.

Strengths: easy to install and operate

Weaknesses: Microsoft is fat and lazy. But with this one you can go elsewhere

Overall Evaluation: Customer service is terrible. I had e-mails that have been disappearing from my inbox and I read that one care was doing it, plus it was a known issue by Microsoft. I looked in their data base, nothing, tried to find a help number to all, they don?t want you to call because finding it was impossible. So four calls later I got a number. I get this guy in India who after verifying that I had one care then told me that since outlook express is part of my operating system and my system was OEM I don?t qualify for help. I cancelled the service. When I need help I want to talk to an American who can speak English.

Microsoft Windows Live OneCare 2.0 Security and Utility Suite Review

- The security protection of Microsoft's Windows Live OneCare 2.0 suite is much better than that of the debut version we reviewed more than a year and a half ago. Add to that a low price, and you have a solid, easy-to-use product for PC users who don't want to mess too much with software settings.
