Strengths: Wireless ability!! Separate black ink tanks (text, photo). Quality printing. Cassette and top/?hand? paper feeds. Dual-sided printing. Generally nice construction. Quick and easy installation.
Weaknesses: Slow to be recognized on wireless network after power loss. Canon?s ?Network Tool? software could be improved. Included (starter?) ink tanks have dropped levels a little more quickly than expected.
Overall Evaluation: Overall, an excellent printer that I?m extremely happy with so far. Any computer that can connect to my wireless router (via wireless *or* wired connection) can print to the printer wirelessly c/o the router. Printer is easily set to auto wake-up and turn off. Direct USB connection is possible, too (and required for setup), but if looking at this wireless version of the iP5200, unlikely to be useful. The separate black ink tanks (one for photos, one double-sized one for "normal" use) are great, and lead to some pretty darn nice text from what would otherwise be deemed a photo printer. If one won?t use the wireless aspect of the iP5200R, no need to pay extra for it. Look at things like the regular iP5200 or iP4200 instead. At least a third of this printer's price at present still appears to be from the wireless capability alone (but if one can use it, it's worth it :) ).

Strengths: Simple Setup, Great Color, Fast, Can stand alone as a network printer (even wirelessly), Has a covered paper storage tray.
Weaknesses: Does not intelligently switch between paper tray and manual feed, Cannot do auto-duplex printing.
Overall Evaluation: Frankly, this printer is just astounding. The colors are vibrant, the speed is amazing, and the whole setup is done intelligently so that dust doesn't gunk up the print heads (just open/close the manual feed port as needed, and use the paper tray). It did envelopes great, it did glossy photos great. There is zero reduction in capability by using it as a stand alone with its great networking capability. Wireless means you can place it anywhere there is a signal and a plug; use a CAT5 Cable instead, and its just that much quicker to print. If I had the ability to tell Canon how to make it the best? I'd ask them to figure out how to make it do duplex on its own, and to automatically switch paper source if you drop a paper into the manual feed. But then again, what printer at this price does that, other than Black and White Laser printers with far substandard print quality? Given the choice, I can do without. This printer should make anybody happy for home use, and I could see small businesses getting along just fine with it too.
Canon Pixma iP5200R Review
- The $229 Canon Pixma iP5200R comes with a built-in 802.11g connection, letting you print wirelessly from Wi-Fi equipped PCs and laptops (and a growing number of digital cameras with Wi-Fi). If you'd prefer to connect the old-fashioned way, the iP5200R also has USB ports, as well as an ethernet port for putting the printer on your network. You can even print from one PC via USB while using Wi-Fi or ethernet to print from a networked PC. However, Canon advises against accessing the printer by Wi-Fi and ethernet simultaneously.
