Duration of ownership: 1 Years

Strengths: Very fast output. Waxy-based toner is very attractive.

Weaknesses: Too many to list here. See overall evaluation.

Overall Evaluation: As soon as I finish the last toner cartridges on this printer, out to the trash it goes, and believe me, that can't happen soon enough. I had have total quality problems with this machine from the beginning. Was mine a lemon? Maybe so. I'd like to think so. Color density/matching has been a nightmare from the beginning, despite many, many tens of hours attempting to tweak, adjust, etc. Customer service was of no help in this department. Shortly after ownership, the unit developed a gouge in the fuser. Oki sent me a new fuser. It was not long after that (and still to today) that I have apparently yet again a fuser problem that places a small mark in all printing three times on the page, along with a solid line down the page on solid color prints. The printer counter is bizarre. I sent an indepth email to tech support regarding detailed statistics I had gathered on page counts. After running exactly 75 copies of a fairly simple flyer, the tray 1 Count increased by 328 pages; the Color Page Count increased by 656 pages; and the Y Toner Life and K Toner life went down by 20%. Why does 75 pages = 328 pages or 656 pages? At this rate of toner consumption, you would only be able to print 375 copies on 4 full cartridges = $302.68? I never got an answer from Okidata other than a canned answer to call them to discuss, and that - yes - I would have to reinvent the wheel in my telephone call, because my lengthy and detailed email would not be available to anyone prior to my calling. I am embarrassed to used this printer to produce publications in instances where they will reflect on my professionalism. I have to apologize constantly to those who unfortunately have to be the recipient of documents printed on this machine. This has been an expensive mistake in purchasing this printer. Hopefully I can be rid of it soon!!!

Duration of ownership: 1 Years

Strengths: Prints great graphics and text. FAST! Easy set up. I love having the additional feed tray.

Weaknesses: Everything else.

Overall Evaluation: I previously reviewed this printer after having it for a month. After a problem with the fuser unit and my unsatisfactory review, I was actually contacted by an Oki rep who advised me to send in samples. After they received my printing samples showing what terrible problems I was having with color issues, though they said they could not address the color issues, I was overnight shipped a new fuser unit and a new black printer cartridge. Shortly before Christmas, I was printing a program in color for my community band. After running only 75 copies of this program and taking detailed readings from the printer's menu display, I found that my Tray 1 Count increased by 328 pages; my Color Page Count increased by 656 pages; my Y Toner Life and K Toner life went down by 20%. Why does 75 pages = 328 pages or 656 pages? I have no idea. At this rate of toner consumption, I would only be able to print 375 copies on 4 full cartridges = $302.68!! This, and all of the sudden, I've got another small mark appearing on my printing, suggesting another fuser problem. This printer has seen comparatively little use in one year -- roughly 2300 pages lifetime. I sent a detailed email to Okidata. There canned reply was that I needed to call in. When I asked if at least my email, which had very detailed information, would be available to whomever I spoke with, they reply was that, no, unfortunately, I would have to re-create the wheel when I call in. One of the reasons for my low page count is that I just cannot utilize this printer for jobs in which the quality of my work is of the utmost importance. Sad. Very sad. I would have thrown it in the garbage long ago, but I just cannot afford to throw away a $700 printer (what it cost when I bought it), no matter how much I detest it. I am so stuck with a printer I HATE! >>

Strengths: Unbelievably great output / FAST / Rugged / Will print a 4 foot banner

Weaknesses: None after you get it working

Overall Evaluation: I had a few setup problems. 1. When I first turned it on the display said FATAL ERROR - Contact Service. I turned it off and on again and it started fine. 2. The first 10 sheets that I printed jammed in the printer. I don't know why but I had to keep clearing the printer path. I was about ready to return the printer to Staples when it started to print fine. I then printed 5,000 sheets without a single jam. It could have possibly been caused by the fact that I left the printer in the car overnight in the garage and brought it in the house the next morning and it was chilly in the garage. It prints very fast and even prints color as fast as B/W. I thought a complex color page would print slower but it's just as fast as B/W to me, about a page every 2 seconds. The amazing thing is that the print quality is better on plain paper than other printers are on glossy paper. You have to see it to believe it. We have a Minolta color laser and the output is not even in ...

Strengths: Great Output, PC/Mac compatible, duplex printing, fast output, bargain price.

Weaknesses: Large size and noisy when printing.

Overall Evaluation: I bought this printer at Staples for $799 plus tax with a $200 rebate promised. I'd been eying it for some time, but the rebate offer made my decision for me. Set up was a bit problematic, but a call to Oki tech support (at 9 PM PST on a Tuesday night) got me an almost instant connection and excellent support. I was up and running on my mixed Mac/PC home network very quickly. The text and graphic output is beautiful and the duplex printing will come in handy for all those manuals that now come on CD rather than in print. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and the quality of the printer and Oki's support.
