Strengths: I loved the programs for Norton SystemWorks but the 2007 version kept crashing and finally locked up my computer. Got it off of my system and got a refund from Norton but...
Weaknesses: The Norton SystemWorks programs kept crashing and finally locked up my system which has more than enough horsepower to handle it. Also getting it off of my system took a lot more work than I would expect.
Overall Evaluation: I would expect that Norton will clean up this product or take it off of the market. I have probably used prior versions for over 10 years. Very dissappointed.

Overall Evaluation: I bought Norton AntiVirus 2007 which Symantec says is Windows Vista ready. I downloaded the vista update for Norton AntiVirus 2007 from Symantec website as advised. But my Windows Vista says that the downloaded file is not suitable for this version of Windows. So, I can't even install the Norton AntiVirus 2007. I felt cheated and looked for the recommendations of good anti-virus softwares. I found that PC World has awarded Best Buy to Kaspersky Anti-Virus and I downloaded and installed it. The installation was very smooth and easy. Kaspersky works well with Vista and now I am happy.

Strengths:
Weaknesses: The norton AV stops my Vista FW from starting. In the vista Firewall screen it says that Norton reported a started FW. I did not buy this firewall from Norton.
Overall Evaluation: The support adviced my (after 30 minutes of chat) to contact the Microsoft helpdesk. So to my opinion: Or they should include a complete FW (where you can control what is happening) Or the norton AV should let the vista firewall start!

Weaknesses: Too expensive No possibility to desactive security center
Overall Evaluation: I never had problems with Norton antivirus since 4 years (the only times (may be 2 or 3 times) i had some annoying errors and it was during some updates, and after some logic deductions,it was when the Symantec server was out of fonction and it gives me a kind of software error......i don't panic and just waiting few hours.....and all was ok)...this 2007 is lighter than ever....i don't understand why so much people dislike this product. The reviews done by serious web sites give a very good appreciations of this product......they are surely not all corrupted or incompetent.....i trust more theses advises than the one's find on the internet by everyone Too expensive but a very good software .

Strengths: I never thought the day would come when I would speak of Norton Antivirus as being perhaps the best all-around anti-malware solution on the market. In the past I found NAV to be a serious memory and system resource hog and it's detection rate had much to be desired. I can say goodbye to those days. NAV 2007 is significantly lighter on system resources and has a very reliable and dependable detection rate even though I still practice and believe in layered security and not depending on a single solution for protection. Though it is not advertised, NAV 2007 also includes Firewall protection which is great. Most other antivirus products do not include this without charging extra for it. With NAV 2007 combined with Webroot SpySweeper I believe I have the perfect one, two knockout combination against malware.
Weaknesses: The only weakness I can see in NAV 2007 right now is it's detection rate of spyware. While it is not terrible it could be much improved. The latest testing from AV-Comparatives in the spyware category for NAV 2007 was decent at 89% percent but I believe this can be improved to at least 95%. This is why I have Webroot SpySweeper alongside NAV 2007.
Overall Evaluation: I'm No Longer A Hater Of NAV 2007 But A Fan. This Version Is A Much Improved Version.

Strengths: No strengths known except that it overtakes your system.
Weaknesses: Very hard to remove and even harder to install new version. Does not see viruses that others do. Consumes lots of valuable computer resources. Takes a long time to activate upon boot.
Overall Evaluation: Working as a tech for a small company that had a server and 29 networked computers, I was told one night that one of the computers had a problem. It sounded like a virus. I updated the norton software then ran as deep a scan that I could do. The scan took over an hour and it did not find anything. I then installed a well-known free Antivirus program (AVG) and upon doing the updates and while configuring it, a window popped up telling me that a virus had been found and it wanted to know what to do with it. This was NOT Norton responding..this was the other free antivirus. I ran a thorough scan for all files and found 24 viruses and this free antivirus..not norton..healed them and quarantined those that it could not heal. Norton/Symantec is a joke! They may have been #1 during the years of Win9x, nt, and Windows 2k, but in my opinion, Norton/Symantec should not be listed as an antivirus solution. I'm also in the computer repair business and have removed many viruses from computers that were supposedly protected from viruses by Norton/Symantec and I removed them using AVG. Norton is horrible.

Strengths: Rebate paid for product. Fast rebate turnaround. Lots of promises.
Weaknesses: Total lack of documemtation. Slow scans. Slow installation. Dreadful customer support. Documentation.
Overall Evaluation: I have been using Norton IS products for several years and have watched them steadily go down hill as far as quality, support and documentation goes. 2007 is the last Norton product I will ever have on my computer. I upgraded from IS2006 and was completely shocked to find that I had to totally uninstall 2006, which wiped out all data contained in the PrivacyControl section (this was after customer support assured me that wouldn't happen). Of course then I couldn't find the Privacy Control center in the 2007 edition and found that it needed to be downloaded as a separate program along with the parental controls and other important features that Norton didn't bother to include on the commercial CD. There was absolutely nothing in the Getting Started manual about having to do this, of course. After I ran a scan, which took hours, I found that the 2007 version identified tracking cookies as items requiring attention, something that 2006 didn't do. Of course, there was absolutely nothing indicating what should be done about them, or how to do it. I'm not sure what a novice user, or even just a casual user, would do with the action screens in this program. It took a couple of clicks on the "Fix" and "Next" buttons to get the thing to respond so I'm sure it would have been very confusing. It truly amazes me how some of these programs get such high ratings and reviews. It can't be possible that they're actually being used on a working computer on a daily basis. Wouldn't you think that someone would mention that there is absolutely no instructions, help guide, or support and that if you decide to use this program you better know what you're doing and be comfortable working without a net? The one good point about this program: It was free with the included rebates and the rebates were fast!

Weaknesses: Anti-spyware support. Difficulty in upgrading from older versions.

Strengths: Great for practicing patience, their marketing and advertising dept should receive accolades for suckering people into buying this bug-infested program.
Weaknesses: Cripples your computer performance, hard to install, uninstall, awful customer support.
Overall Evaluation: I noticed there was a problem when I helped a colleague install her version. After spending about two hours on the phone with them, "Tony" (I don't think that was his real name) told me to uninstall it and "Tony" had me download it again off one of their special comuters. This process took about 3 total hours to get this installed. Two months later, my subscription needed to be updated. Same thing and had to talk with another Tony type. Same thing. I had to uninstall and reinstall it. I think they should outsource their outsourced tech support and just have an answering machine pick up and instruct you to uninstall and reinstall it. Save everyone time. Finally, I just uninstalled it again and my computer is working about 50 times faster.

Strengths: Solid Detection based on a good worldwide research center
Weaknesses: LONG installation and uninstallation. Constant program problems that require reinstalltion. Annoying wastefull useless "security center" add-on that can not be disabled. SLOW LONG scans. HUGE performance hit on your PC. Automatic update does NOT also update the program, requiring the user to periodically manually run Live Update anyway. HORRIBLE customer support
Overall Evaluation: Over the past two years, Symantec has progressively degraded to a point where I no longer recommend it to my clients. It's HUGE perfomance hit, slow app and requirement of the user to run Live Update manually help make it no longer favorable. The program has become bloatware. It takes 45 minutes to install. And then, frequently comes up with problem requiring the user to remove it and reinstall. The annoying "protection center" that serves ZERO purpose, other than to annoy the user, can no longer be disabled, causing a BIGGER hit on performance.

Strengths: Brings upset customers together in forums like this. The nage screen also informs you how many more days you have to deal with this POS (Piece of Software) before your subscription will run out and you can deal with anybody else.
Weaknesses: This box is not big enough to start. Suffice it to say, use ANYTHING but this software!!
Overall Evaluation: I am like other people here on this forum. I initially installed it on my wife's computer 6 months ago and forgot what a nightmare it was to install. Then, I helped a friend install hers and got to practice my Hindi for about 2 1/2 hours of which I used the word, "what did you just say?" I think it got installed on her computer, but had to leave after watching something install for awhile. Then, I made the ABSOLUTE HUGE MISTAKE of renewing my software because I couldn't deal with their constant nag screen. Now, Firefox will not load, I go to the help menu and it tells me what to do and I diligently follow it. Then, the Firewall freezes and then allows nothing on the computer to happen. I really do not want to practice my Hindi. I hope Symantec has saved millions by outsourcing their call center and realize that they should quit taking from their customers their profits and start investing in getting this POS to work right. That won't happen. Once an exec gets the taste of huge bonuses - well, there are other places we can cut back on. Just keep putting the same crap out there, fire the good techs and outsource them to that gradeschool sweatshop in a 3rd world company - but spend more on Marketing and Advertising! If we say it enough, then it will be a fact we are the BEST out there!

Strengths: Supported by a leader in the industry for personal computer prootection. Good with updates without interruption of work.
Weaknesses: Not always the best choice with compatibility. But that is true of most utility software.
Overall Evaluation: While no software is guaranteed to work on every system, I've been using Norton Utilities and Antivirus since Norton was its own brand in a non-windows DOS system.Sure, there are times when the product just doesn't deliver, but after more than 20 years in the PC business, that is true of most utilities on the market. Symantec has done an exceptional job with R & D and keeping current with intrusion detection and protection technology. This would be one of the most important considerations when you buy protection software. They offer a 100% refund guarantee if you don't like it or it doesn't work on your system. I'd place my money on this product over most any other anti-virus software.
