Casio E200 CASSIOPEIA POCKET PC 2002 64MB COLOR REFLECTIVE DISPLAY (Casio-E200)

Casio Cassiopeia E-200
E200 CASSIOPEIA POCKET PC 2002 64MB COLOR REFLECTIVE DISPLAY (Casio-E200) Review, by Richard Baguley April 29, 2002
WHAT'S HOT:
The tri-toned metallic Cassiopeia E-200 Pocket PC offers striking looks and both CompactFlash and Secure Digital slots (which can be locked to prevent cards from popping out by accident). The E-200's screen is bright and easy to use in all lighting conditions (though it's a bit darker than earlier Cassiopeias), and you can swap out the rechargeable battery for a spare one (which costs $45); a backup battery will preserve your data if the main battery runs out. A jog dial on the side permits one-handed use.
WHAT'S NOT: At $545, the E-200 certainly isn't cheap. Casio eliminated the voice recorder button that was on the side of previous Casio Pocket PC PDAs, and after trying out the E-200's audio, we're not surprised. The muted, fuzzy playback from the built-in speaker sounds terrible compared with the old Cassiopeia EM-500's, although playback through the headphone socket was good.
WHAT ELSE: At almost 0.75-inch thick, the E-200 is one of the thickest of the Pocket PCs, but it still fits fine in a shirt pocket. We found the directional pad a little stiff; in contrast to earlier models, it's combined with the built-in speaker and centered on the front, flanked on either side by two application buttons. Casio includes a black leather slipcase.
The E-200 works with a healthy assortment of add-ins via its dual expansion slots: memory cards, Wireless LAN adapters for 802.11b networking, and wired and wireless modems. An option is a $150 PC Card sled with a battery; the sled allows the PDA to use PC Card devices and increases the E-200's life by providing a second battery.
UPSHOT: One of the most alluring Pocket PCs, the E-200 offers both CF and SD slots built in for no-fuss expansion, as well as plenty of memory and a bright, easy-to-read screen.

Strengths: Great screen, USB, CF and MMC.SD slots
Weaknesses: Painting on the side come's off after intensife use rendomly reformating CF cards
Overall: AL in al its the best Pocket pc ive ever used you can play MP3 and video whit great speeds. And i've heard that te first models were defect i mean by that that the backlight burns out and that the CF slot is defect after 1 week. But this is only whit the 5A models the 5B doesn't have this problems you can find you type number on the back of the PDA.

Strengths: Super-bright display and speedy performance won me over... coolness while working with E-200 impressed me, compared to hot HP Jornada and Compaq iPaq. Large memory accessiblity in CF & SD is good.
Weaknesses: Doing soft resets often... attempts at reformatting SD memory are unwelcome but easily canceled.
Overall: Overall, I'm well pleased with E-200's performance and ability to amaze me. I have recommended this to several friends and they have bought the same. One person ditched an older PDA immediately after seeing my E-200. I did a month's research and chose Casio's E-200, which turned out to be very good investment.

Strengths: Dual media slots work simultaneously: SD/Multimedia card or Type 1/2 Compactflash. Also has USB connectivity. Battery removable so you can carry a spare.
Weaknesses: Steeper learning curve than a Palm. These things can do so much more, but it takes a while to get familiar with everything. Also read some issues with screens going bad, but have had no problems.
Overall: So far very satisfied. I've added both a 64 meg multimedia card and 256 mb compactflash card, so I have tons of storage. Holds all of my email, lots of MP3s, and plenty of mpegs or work files (powerpoint, etc.). I still basically use it for addresses and calendar, for which it does a nice job - slightly less efficient than a Palm, but easier to read via great screen. The added bonuses vs. Palm are HUGE memory via add-on cards, great screen, superfast processor (will actually play 50mb mpegs fairly smoothly, either landscape or portrait), voice recorder, MP3 player, ability to insert compactflash card direct from camera to show photos on screen, easy importing of Word, Excel, Powerpoint files, slide shows for photos, much better games (graphic-wise), and so on. Unique among almost all PocketPC 2002 players, this one has dual memory slots and USB capability.

Strengths: FAST PROCESSOR ( IN -LINE WITH THE IPAQ) EXPANSION CAPABILITIES, USB PORT
Weaknesses: MINOR BUGS (RADOM RE-FORMATING OF CF) VERY BAD KEYPAD FOR GAMERS ESPECIALLY IN CAPARISON TO E-125. VERY POOR BATTERY LIFE ESPECIALLY IF USING IBM MICRODRIVE.
Overall: OVERALL I LIKE THE E 200 BUT WISH CASIO KEPT THE KEYPAD FORMAT FROM THE OLDER E-125. (WHICH I ALSO OWN) MY GAMES PLAY FASTER AND I HAVE PLENTY OF SOFTWARE OPTIONS. MOVIES AND FILES ALSO PLAY FASTER.

Strengths: Plenty of expansion capabilities.
Weaknesses: Lack of extra devices for this model. Casio seems to be more interested in the BE-300 cheapy than their flagship item.
Overall: This PDA is plague with bugs. The screens back light burn out in about 3 weeks or so of use and the unit randomly attempts to reformat the CF cards. Some users have already had to exchange these unit up to three times, and the problems keep returning. Casio is not doing a lot about it either, their whole attitude towards these problems is, "We will take them one at a time, rather than issue a recall."
